The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) has sent a letter to seek conflict resolution and prevention in Iba LCDA to both the office of Oniba of Iba and the Executive Chairman of Iba Local Government Development Area in Lagos State.
The petition submitted on Monday, 14th of April is calling for urgent attention of both offices to rise to prevent communal clash in Ijeododo Community over a recent complaint from members of the community to the Central administrative office of the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda HURMA.
The petition signed by the Executive Director of HURMA, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak titled:
“ALLEGED UNLAWFUL REMOVAL OF STREET NAME; CONSPIRACY/ ABUSE OF OFFICE BY BALEE OF IJE-ODODO, ABU JELILI, IBA LCDA.Request to Urgently Address Matter For Peaceful Resolution And Prevention of Communal Clash in Iba LCDA, Lagos State” detailed how some members of the Ajimotokin family and other colleagues at the CEHRA Humanity Project office in Ijeododo, under Iba LCDA has petitioned the office of the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda HURMA, over allegations on above subject matter.The petition reads:
“According to information made available to our office, a complaint on how the Balle of IJE-ODODO, Abu JELILI conspired with a new community member to remove the Street sign post of Ajimotokin Street in favor of a new landlord was prime and disturbing.
Evidence of approval (herein attached) of Ajimotokin Street name by the Local Government was sent to us, with payment fee officially maintained till date”.
Aggrieved complainants to HURMA office had described Mr. Bankole Ajimotokin as resident of Ijeododo for close to three decades. Also as the Branch Coordinator for Ijeododo CEHRA Humanity Project, Bankole Ajimotokin is said to have been severally involved in many developmental projects which include Youths Social Orientation programs as well as peace and security activities within Ijeododo and adjourning communities.
The above has earned him recognitions by the state and award from police stations among other state recognized bodies.
“According to message from aggrieved complainants to the office of Human Rights Monitors, removal of Ajimotokin Street name and sign post by Balle of IJE-ODODO, Abu Jelili and replacement with that of another resident’s name who has just spent less than 10 years in the community with no known contribution to the community development, except a secret dealings with the Balle, which needs to be properly investigated, is considered as highly unjust and unlawful.”Although our present message to the CEHRA Humanity Project office in Ijeododo under the watch of Mr. Bankole Ajimotokin is that no one should act rudely to either the Balle or any Community leader on his behalf. Moreso, no family conduct or any of his office associates should be allowed to tarnish the image and integrity he has built for many years. It is however our request that the matter requires urgent attention to prevent communal clash .
“One of the keys of our democratic society is that we are ruled by law rather than by the whim of dictators, but that requires general subscription to the rule of existing laws and working through proper channels to change laws and procedures we don’t like. Non-procedural actions will most likely lead to chaos and this requires urgent attention”.
HURMA appeals to His Royal Majesty, Oba Sulaiman, the Oniba of Iba land and as well the Executive Chairman of Iba LCDA for prompt intervention towards investigation and ensuring justice.
