HURMA which was later joined by other Civil Society group, in an urgent meeting held on late Friday 3rd of March addressed both its local and International structures to the need to address the present state of the nation.

According to the Executive Director of HURMA, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak in his open address said

“The purpose of this urgent meeting is to see the urgent need to unite both our local and International strengths towards the maintenance of national peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of any acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace.

In a press statement released to African Narrators after the long meeting, the groups represented maintained that such act of self declaration as winner in a democratic environment is an invitation to anarchy where innocent Nigerians may end up being used to settle political scores.

Aggrieved parties are however encouraged to approach the Election Petition tribunal to settle the scores.

“We operate a constitutional democracy. Any party who is dissatisfied with the result of the election should approach the election petition tribunal.
We condemn in strong terms break down of law and order or any action that could bring about any unrest in our country.

Political parties are hereby encouraged to desist from making use media platforms to declare themselves as winners of the election as that is akin to anarchy and self help.

“Innocent Nigerians should not be used to settle political scores.”
