The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda HURMA has sent a public note of commendation to the leadership of the Nigerian Police Force for its latest culture of instant responsiveness in addressing public complaint, especially when it has to do with the image of the force.
This was emphasized on a live weekly Human Rights reports program by the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) on Tuesday, 11th of February, 2025.
The Human Rights weekly presentation addresses complaints from general public and as well gives update on general submitted complaints with concerned offices/ authorities, including the court.
According to the presenter, Comrade Pastor Ojetoro Festus who represented the Executive Director of HURMA, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, the public is getting a renewed hope in the Nigerian Police Force leadership due to its responsiveness and promptness of approach.
The AIG of FCID Annex, Alagbon was commended particularly for recent actions in ensuring that the rule of law prevails in all circumstances.
Making reference to recent petition to the AIG with the title:
“ALLEGED HARASSMENT, THREAT, AND DISREGARD FOR COURT PROCEEDINGS BY OFFICERS ATTACHED TO FCID, ALAGBON” which was about one Chief Adekintan Adenaike who was held in detention at Alagbon FCID despite a court ruling restraining the police from such.The petition reads:
“The restraining order was issued recently by the Ikorodu Division of the Lagos High Court in Suit No: IKD/18186/2024 between Chief Adekintan Adenaike (Applicant) and the Respondents, including the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Alagbon, and ASP Alexander Oifoghe, among others”.
During a general call in section on the radio program, the Executive Director of HURMA, Comrade Buna Isiak called in to reiterate the readiness of the Human Rights/ Anti-Corruption body to work with the police to achieve a totally redeemed image, completely reliable that anyone and everyone can trust and relate with.
“As We are commending the improved standard with which our police now operate, we will implore the leadership to double its efforts and be more vigilant on officers under them to protect the good image the leadership is building”A complaint from relatives of one Ganiyu Raji received by the Right Monitors office was reported on which the family alleged conspiracy among some officers at the FCID Alagbon which led to the release of a criminal suspect.
The AIG’s response to meet the affected family members was as well publicly announced and other members of the public are assured of police reliability.
Human Rights Monitors HURMA Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak in his conclusion commended the leadership of the Nigerian Police Force for the repositioning of the police and this includes prompt disciplinary actions against erring officers.
“We however implore that you redouble your efforts as we call for a harmonious working relationship.
