The administrators of Local Government and LCDAs in Lagos State and Nigeria in general have been advised to make Shomolu Local Government a model in addressing the plight of the poor masses within their territories.
This advise was given during recent visit to Somolu General Hospital in Lagos State by the office of Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) led by the Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak and Comrade Monsur Akinremi, Coordinator of Somolu unit of HURMA.
According to report, the office was invited by concerned residents of Somolu community who called the Central Admin office of HURMA in Somolu to report the plight of a poor man who needed urgent medical attention but seemed abandoned somewhere close to the General Hospital without anyone attending to him.
However contrary to the report of abandonment, the Rights Monitors office discovered that the General Hospital had already commenced treatment to the poor man from the Special Health Intervention Fund as regularly provided by Somolu Local Government towards ensuring free medical attention to the poor and needy, a policy started by the immediate past regime of Hon. Abdul-Hameed Salawudeen Dullar and still maintained by the present regime of Hon. Abd-Lateef Ashimi.
A profound appreciation was extended to the local government for ensuring such policy on welfarism to the poor and as well the General Hospital management for its cooperation and general support to the human rights cause.
