“Obasa’s impeachment is not about corruption because it’s the same useless corruption ridden LSHA that defended and protected him all these years with efcc becoming blind, deaf & dumb. Kudos to HEDA, a consistent foremost Anti-Corruption organization and Human Rights Monitoring Agenda HURMA, for never dimming searchlight on Obasa & Co in Lagos state and in all states including the corrupt non state actors in the country.”

The recent impeachment of Mudasiru Obasa, now former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly LSHA has generated several reactions among Nigerians. But intellectuals and public analysts seems united on the view that the reason for the impeachment goes beyond the allegation of fraud as many are made to believe, both on the social media and beyond.Comrade Adeola Soetan, a revolutionary and former Nigerian Student leader popularly known as Baba Shoo in a recent public statement which has also generated many reactions from both state and non state actors wrote:”Obasa’s Love For The Forbidden FruitHaving been given “Ewe Jokoje” (calm down leaf) by Jagaban Lagos political machinery, Obasa will be left alone to enjoy his loot & his huge corruption cases will rest in perfect peace after EFCC possible initial gragra.”Obasa’s impeachment is not about corruption because it’s the same useless corruption ridden LSHA that defended and protected him all these years with efcc becoming blind, deaf & dumb. Because in Lagos State, institutionalized corruption with the fear of God is legitimate by their unwritten code of ethics.. You only become a victim when you become too ambitious without listening carefully to the “order from above”. The Agege boy wants to become the next Lagos governor hence he ate a forbidden fruit which cost him his juicy job as Mr. Speaker!!!!!!”Whether or not his impeachment is about preserving the governorship seat for Seyi Tinubu’s rumoured ambition, the bitter truth is that Obasa is soundly corrupt like the house of jokes he presided over for many years”Kudos to HEDA, a consistent foremost Anti-Corruption organization and Human Rights Monitoring Agenda HURMA, for never dimming searchlight on Obasa & Co in Lagos state and in all states including the corrupt non state actors in the country”.The above position of Comrade Soetan is however further corroborated by Dr. Muiz Banire S.A.N in a press statement to African Narrators among other national dailies. In the press statement titled: “Removal of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker: Matters raising”, Dr. Muiz Banire positioned the process of removal of the former Speaker, Obasa on 13th January 2025 as best described as a coup. He explained further that such event is certainly not new to the Lagos State House of Assembly. In his words: “…at a point in time, we had witnessed the removal of also a sitting Speaker in the names of Hon. Jokotola Pelumi. As at the time of his removal, nothing concrete in my view was the allegation….””In a fashion nearly identical to the removal of Pelumi, Hon. Funmi Tejuoso, then as Deputy Speaker was removed for an event totally unconnected with her and while out of the country. As an active participant in the politics and governance of Lagos State then, I know that in the two instances above, it was the inordinate ambition of some members of the House and the tendency to control, that led to the plot of removal. “The latest is the removal of Mudashiru Obasa for so many reasons advanced by his colleagues, ranging from high-handedness, fraud, gross misconduct etc. Although, I have not directly seen any publication or statement by the removed Speaker..””By way of anecdote, Mudasiru Obasa was highly active and instrumental to the removal of all the above victims. It was the same high-handedness he applied in the removal of Lanre Osun, Muyiwa Jimoh and others”. (the others widely rumored to include former representative from Somolu constituency 1).”In fact, their offices were locked while they were barred from even accessing the premises of the House. As the proverb goes, whoever kills by sword, must surely expect to die by the sword. “His removal from office as a Speaker must therefore not be a surprise to him. It is the bitter pills that he was used to administering to others that he now partook in. As such, now that it is his turn to enjoy the same pills, he must heartily enjoy the same .”However among all reactions, the message of the Executive Director of the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative), Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak at a public gathering in Lagos is very interesting and from this a message is passed to the new Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Lasbat Meranda.”A public office is not something to contest for with desperate spirit because it is a big task and all about service to the people. We however found recent celebration by the newly installed Speaker of Lagos House not encouraging. Her focus and fears including that of her loved ones should be strictly how not to fail in this present Hot seat.We are all here on earth and that of every position we found ourselves, just for a short period and if it is well spent or otherwise will determine the rest of our life time.I hope Obasa will be allowed to rest in peace”.
