The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) has petitioned the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly to question alleged lack of fair play in the distribution process in the ongoing Lagos discounted food markets program.
This petition was as a result of protest letter sent to the Somolu unit office of the Human Rights group by aggrieved residents on why Somolu Local Government should be excluded from beneficiaries.
The petition to both the Lagos State governor and Speaker was signed by the Executive Director of Human Rights Monitoring Agenda, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak and titled: “EXCLUSION OF SOMOLU LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMUNITIES FROM THE OUNJE EKO BENEFIT: A CALL FOR URGENT ATTENTION”.
The letter seek urgent intervention of the authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Somolu community exclusion and rectification of discrepancies.
“We are writing to inquire about the distribution process arrangements for the Lagos discounted food markets, ensuring transparency and fairness. Recently, our central office received a complaint from concerned residents of Somolu community, brought forward by the Somolu unit coordinator of HURMA.
“This complaint highlights the exclusion of Somolu community from the recently announced discounted food markets program, aimed at alleviating economic hardships faced by residents.
“We urge your urgent intervention to investigate the reasons behind Somolu’s exclusion and to rectify any discrepancies in the arrangement.”
