The family of ADESADA OGANIUGBE of Igbooye in Eredo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has commended the Area Commander, Area J Police Command, Mrs. Yemisi Ojo for her dedication, commitment and non partisan as an unbiased umpire on the disputed Otara land matter in Igbooye as against the open and maximum support of Noforija DPO, Mrs. Gregory Ikpekhia to Land Grabbers/hoodlums even after the death of the leader of the gang, Mr. Abdul Rasaq Rafiu.

The family in their report of commendation made available to Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA), stated that they got information about the death of Mr. Abdul Rasaq Rafiu on Thursday morning and arrangements to burry him on the Otara land of ADESADA OGANIUGBE FAMILY despite several petitions and pending court case against them as some of them are still standing trial on criminal case at Ogba Magistrate Court while the LEXUS JEEP of the leader of the gang is being impounded at State Command, Ikeja.

It was learnt that while the family was contemplating of informing the DPO of the information gotten, the DPO deployed the CP Tactical squard attached to the Division to come and guide the land grabbers on the illegal activities on the land as they were digging the ground for the corpse. It however took the intervention of the Military personnel in the town who advised the parties and the CP Tactical squard attached to the division to go to the DPO for discussion and resolution as they do not want the issue to degenerate to communal clashes.

According to the delegation of Adesada Oganiugbe family led by Alhaji Abdulganiy Salaam who is the Chief Imam of the community, the DPO threatened them that they would not go back home again and he would transfer them to Zone 2 and the Chief Imam said, they were not worried about that since that was the same way the DPO detained the Family Secretary, Mr. Idris Salami on Friday, September 15, 2023 based on false allegation of involvement in BUNKERING ACTIVITIES because the DPO was conspiring and supporting the land grabbers/hoodlums wherein he stationed the Patrol Van of the Division and his men on OTARA LAND while the land grabbers’ bulldozer was destroying corner pieces, fences, foundations and other structures on the land that belonged to Adesada Oganiugbe family members. Mr. Salami was later transferred to Zone 2 on Monday, September 18, 2023, detained and taken to Court on Tuesday September 19, 2023 but the Directorate of Public Prosecution declined the arraignment. To the surprise of the family, all the four (4) count charges were later discovered to be on Land and nothing on Bunkering activities despite the DPO claiming that there were convincing evidences and video clip testifying to the involvement of Mr. SALAMI on BUNKERING activities. What a great injustice and undue punishment to Mr. SALAMI and Adesada Oganiugbe Family.

In his submission, Alhaji Abdulganiy Salaam said, they were surprised as the DPO was saying it is Idris he wanted to see and they should go and bring Idris which he told him that they came to represent themselves and the family not Idris and if the DPO has issue with Idris he should look for Idris by himself. The family wondered why standing by the law and on our legal properties can become an offence to warrant intimidation, harassment and victimisation from law enforcement agent like CSP GREGORY IKPEKHIA, THE DPO OF NOFORIJA.

The Chief Imam lamented that the argument continued until the family’s lawyer came around and several personalities called the DPO before he later transferred the matter to Area Command. It is very pleasing to note that after the Divisional Crime Officer of Noforija Division who led the parties to Area Command gave reason for the referral, the Area Commander listened to both parties and directed that the corpse should not be buried on OTARA LAND since their is dispute on the land which has criminal cases already pending in Court. She further directed that they should pursue their cases and if they eventually won, they can exhume the corpse and bring it back to the land. The family was overwhelming delighted and thanked the Area Commander, ACP Yemisi Ojo for the bold directive which the DPO cannot do because of his involvement on the land.

It may be recalled that the Secretary of Adesada Oganiugbe Family, Mr. Idris Adebanjo SALAMI as law abiding citizen had in September 13, 2023 wrote petition to Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 upon which the DPO conspired with the land grabbers to frame him up for involvement in BUNKERING ACTIVITIES and detained him. The petition written by Mr. SALAMI was later approved by the AIG and one of the culprit, Shina Adebisi was charged to Court at Magistrate Court 18, Igbosere while they were unable to apprehend Mr. Abdul Rasaq Rafiu and others even though the OC Legal later went to Court on December 01, 2023 to withdraw the case without the knowledge nor consent of the nominal complainant who was in court with five (5) witnesses.

The Family is now strongly appealing to the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State to kindly use their good offices for the protection of members of Adesada Oganiugbe Family, particularly, the Secretary who had continuously been harassed, intimidated and victimized by the land grabbers/hoodlums and the DPO. For instance, the family is reliably aware that the lawyer to the land grabbers, S. S. SHITTU who supposed to pursue the case of criminal charges against them at court 20, Ogba and investigation being carried out by the office of Special Taskforce on Land Grabbers, Alausa wrote frivolous and spurious petition full of lies to AIG, Zone 2 in December claiming that the State Command illegally impounded the vehicle of the leader of the land grabbers, arrested some of his brothers and mechanic which necessitated Zone 2 command to be demanding for the transfer of the case that came to State Command on the directive of the IGP and is already pending in court.

It is pertinent to note that Mr. Salami is a diligent and respected individual as he is a member of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) of Noforija Division and the National Treasurer of Colleges of Education Old Students Association in Nigeria (an umbrella body for Alumni Associations in all Colleges of Education in Nigeria) while he was a former Member of the Governing Council of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education now Lagos State University of Education and former Co-Chairman, Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, (NIREC), Eredo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

The Head, Mr. Oluwatosin Emmanuel Adewunmi and other members of the family therefore plead with the IGP, AIG, Alagbon and particularly, Zone 2, Commissioner of Police of Lagos State and Area Commander of Area J Police Command to help us call the DPO of Noforija, his men and the land grabbers/hoodlums to order as regards the continuous harassment of family members on our land as they are boosting of attack on members of Adesada Oganiugbe Family, particularly, the Secretary who did nothing contrary to the Law.
